Cheap travel to Iraq/Afghanistan from Europe or Israel?

Hi! I am currently taking a gap year from school - a friend and I are living in spain for 3 months and teaching English as a second language. In December, we will be leaving Madrid to travel to Morocco, the UK, parts of Europe and Russia, and Israel. My friend, Liz and I are both 19 and from the US. Anyway, we would really like to travel to Iraq (Bagdad) or Afghanistan (preferably Kabul, Afghanistan), except airfare is very expensive. Are there trains that are relatively cheaper than airfare that travel from Eastern Europe or like Israel/Jordan area? We really want to go. Also, do you think couchsurfing would be safe there...? We are trying to couchsurf as much as possible this year to keep costs down.
